As the founder of Proactive Seniors Ltd. and a native Calgarian, I am passionate about improving the quality and enjoyment of life for seniors in our city. Additionally, I am committed to helping support families in the care of their loved ones and in optimizing access to, and use of, healthcare and seniors services. I have years of experience helping Calgary seniors find the right type of Calgary senior care/senior housing facility for them. I am a Calgary transition specialist and Calgary senior housing/retirement home advisor who cares about the best life experience for my clients and their families.
My professional background is as a Physical Therapist in which capacity I worked for 14 years specializing in chronic pain, complex medical cases and hip/knee replacement rehab. Subsequently, I returned to university to obtain a Masters degree in business at which point my career evolved into healthcare consulting working with public, private and non-profit health organizations in the areas of electronic health records, IT integration, process improvement, strategy and operational review.
I am a volunteer on the City of Calgary Age Friendly Calgary – Housing Options Action Team committee, a board member for Rocky Mountain Little League and sit on the Connect Charter School Parent Council.
In this third stage of my career I am thrilled to be able to build on my past experiences and create an organization that fulfills me both professionally and personally.

In 2015, Proactive Seniors founder, Kathy Mendham recognized the need for a service that would help to address the challenges and frustrations that Calgary seniors and their families face when trying to identify and access, in a timely manner, the myriad of senior services that exist.
There are reams of government assessments and reports that indicate planning ahead for ones’ senior years will be crucial in our current environment of overstretched health care and constricted government funding. Through personal experience Kathy has seen that managing life transitions through the senior years can be both complicated, and stressful, for all involved, and when faced with inadequate or poorly timed access to the Calgary seniors’ services that do exist, the experience of living-well while aging is further compromised.
In creating Proactive Seniors, Kathy hopes to address this service gap and the associated difficulties that families face when navigating difficult or stressful discussions related to planning for aging.
Kathy and the team at Proactive Seniors are blessed to be doing work that they love and having a positive impact on one of our most valuable resources – our seniors.
We envision Calgary’s seniors transitioning smoothly and confidently through their senior years. Seniors living in the right location for their needs and wishes. They benefit from timely access to supportive aging services when and where they need them. Their families and caregivers feel comfortable and prepared in their roles and are confident their loved ones are living well with their personal choices and wishes met.
We aim to provide a personalized service of unparalleled value wherein Calgary seniors and their families are enabled to live life to its fullest through planning ahead for tomorrow.
